Why sometime SESB need to relocate Meter location?

  1. For better Meter Reading (e.g Difficult to access, Meter location too high)
  2. For safety reasons (e.g, Meter expose to weather, Meter location too low)

Since when SESB started using electronic Meters?

Starting on 2010, SESB is installing electronic meters at customer's premise in stages.

Why confusion exist between Routine Meter Change programme and replacement of meter due to tampering on meter installlation?

Routine Meter Change programme is BAU program that replaces aged meter which is beyond accuracy lifespan. Replcament of meter due to tampering carried out when SESB's meter is tampered with altered or damaged which require replacement of meter. Confusion raised since both activities involved meter replacement in order to get accurate energy consumption.

How does SESB identify the area which needed Routine Meter Change Programme?

SESB has a customer database that records which meters have been in service beyond accuracy lifespan.

Why SESB replaced those meters which are still in good condition?

SESB replaces aged meters (more than accuracy life span) as it may no longer record accurate electricity consumptions. The replacement of aged meter is a utility prudent practice and is in accordance to the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (for accurate billing)

Why conduct Routine Meter Change Programme?

The main objectives are:

  1. To ensure accurate meter reading and billing
  2. To ensure the safety of meter installation.

Does meter at consumer premis will be changed by SESB from time to time?

  1. After checked/tested, SESB found that the meter was damaged (such as meter's accuracy not acceptable, broken meter casing, faded display etc.)
  2. The meter is more than 15 years for Electro-mechanical Meter & 10 years for Electronic Meter. These meters will be replaced under Routine Meter Replacement exercise.
  3. The meter was found tampered.
